When I was a small boy, growing up in a small Caribbean island village environment, equipment to practice and learn any particular sport was not readily available. My parents taught me the value of striving to achieve personal goals, and so I 'made do' with rudimentary sports equipment until I was lucky enough for my father buy me my first cricket bat.

I was also fortunate in having strong family support, particularly my father, Malcolm and my brother, Donald, to help me with my desire to play cricket and football. Then, of course, with their motivation, cricket became my chosen sport.

However, I am aware, in today's busier atmosphere, where lives are often more complicated by financial and practical pressures, that such support and sports opportunities for children in general, are more difficult to come by.

So, along with like-minded people, The Sir Vivian Richards Foundation (SVRF) was conceived to try and make those vital chances in life more accessible to the youth of our region.

We want to be able to initiate and support a plethora of sporting opportunities so that youth can reach their highest potential, whilst promoting their health, education and moral welfare at the same time.

With your input, help, pledges, suggestions, we can all help to make a difference to encouraging and supporting the immense sporting talent within our region.
